Leicester City Faces Injury Blow Of Key Player Ahead Of Birmingham City Clash

Kelechi Iheanacho will return, but Jamie Vardy is expected to miss Leicester City’s match against Birmingham City on Monday.

City were missing seven senior players on Wednesday night as they rallied from behind to defeat Millwall and reclaim first place in the Championship table. Both of Enzo Maresca’s top two strikers were once again unavailable, with Patson Daka starting and scoring for the second game in a row.

But, after recovering from illness, Iheanacho will return to face him and Tom Cannon at St Andrew’s on Monday night. Vardy, on the other hand, is not likely to play since he is still recovering from a knee injury.

Iheanacho may be the only one of the seven players who were absent on Wednesday to return. Harry Souttar was out with sickness in midweek and could return, but Yunus Akgun, Kasey McAteer, Marc Albrighton, and Callum Doyle are unlikely to, though the latter is “very close” after missing nearly three months with a knee injury.

“Jamie, I think he needs some days,” Maresca remarked after the win on Wednesday. “Kele is fine; he can be there for the next one.”

“Yunus may or may not be in the next one.” Callum is not far away. Harry was sick, but he should be well for the next one. We don’t know what will happen on Monday because Marc Albrighton was kicked in the knee. Kele is probably the only one for Monday. The others will struggle.”

Blues are missing numerous key players, including both front-line right backs, but will be heartened by their first away success under Wayne Rooney. While the Foxes were defeating Millwall, the Blues defeated Cardiff City 1-0.
