Leeds Rhinos desired a veteran of the Brisbane Broncos…

The BRISBANE BRONCOS experienced a revival under head coach Kevin Walters during the 2023 NRL season.

After missing out on a playoff position in 2022, the Broncos finished second last season and advanced to the NRL Grand Final, where they were defeated by the Penrith Panthers.

Kurt Capewell, whose standards on and off the field have helped turn around a floundering culture at Red Hill, was a vital cog in that Brisbane wheel.

Having said that, despite being under contract with the Broncos until 2024, the Queensland club has informed Capewell that they cannot afford to extend his contract into 2025 and beyond.

The 30-year-old was left in the wilderness, with the New Zealand Warriors offering him a three-year contract with immediate effect, which he has now accepted.

However, League Express believes that Leeds Rhinos have made enquiries about the 30-year-old in order to bring him to Headingley when his contract with Brisbane expires in 2025.

Of course, with the Rhinos already holding seven quota seats for 2024, Rohan Smith would have to part ways with one of his international players.

However, League Express can confirm that Capewell has turned down that option and will continue with the Warriors in the NRL for 2024, 2025, and 2026.
