Minter, who recorded a scoreless eighth inning, equaled Mike Remlinger for the most holds in Atlanta-era franchise history with his 107th.
Minter, 30, will become a free agent after this season, and his consistency should make him one of the most desirable free agents in the 2018 class. Minter’s 102 holds since becoming a full-time major leaguer in 2018 rank second in MLB, trailing only New York Mets reliever Adam Ottavino. They are also the most by a left-handed reliever within that time frame.
And with one more hold, Minter’s total might become the franchise record, as holds were not an official stat until 1986, meaning data for earlier seasons are sparse. The team’s official records page does not even include records for holds among its pitching statistics, although the organizational record is thought to belong to Remlinger, who played for Atlanta from 1999 to 2002. Remlinger was named an All-Star in 2002, when he ended with a 1.99 ERA and a 7-3 record, with 30 holds in 68 innings.
Minter is presently 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA, 12 strikeouts, and two holds in 10.0 innings pitched. He has 35 saves in his career with Atlanta, including fifteen in 2018 and ten more last season when closer Raisel Iglesias was sidelined.
