‘Kind of a dog’: Nick Saban speaks of Alabama signee and…

On Wednesday, Alabama football added another name to its list of 2024 signees.

On the first day of the early signing period for the 2024 recruiting class, the Crimson Tide flipped Aeryn “Bubba” Hampton from Texas.

The four-star athlete from Daingerfield, Texas, was persuaded at the last minute to leave his home state’s flagship university for Tuscaloosa. After Alabama revealed 23 signees on Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban praised Hampton.

“Bubba’s kind of a dog, man,” Saban observed. “He’s one of those players who is a fierce competitor and makes a lot of plays.” He doesn’t come off the field very often, no matter what position he plays on offense or wherever he plays on the field. They had a very good season this year, and while the playoffs were disappointing, this man is a fantastic competitor who can do a lot of things, and we’re extremely thrilled to have him.”

Hampton was a wide receiver and cornerback for Daingerfield, which finished one game shy of the Texas state title game. He was listed as 5-foot-10 and weighing 175 pounds by Alabama.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the No. 11 athlete in the class of 2024. In addition to Texas, Hampton had previously expressed interest in Baylor.
He also had scholarship offers from UTSA, LSU, and Colorado, among others. He was one of two flips among the Crimson Tide signees on Wednesday, the other being Tuscaloosa County running back Kevin Riley, who chose Alabama over Miami.
