Kieran McKenna delivers promotion message saying Leeds United’s win has ‘zero impact’ on Ipswich Town.

With a victory over Swansea City, the Tractor Boys maintained their promotion hopes.

Kieran McKenna, manager of Ipswich Town, believes wins for Leeds United and Southampton had “zero impact” on his team after a 2-1 victory at Swansea, which maintained their push for automatic promotion to the Championship.

Nathan Broadhead and Conor Chaplin scored twice in the first half to upset hosts Swansea City, keeping the Tractor Boys in contention for the top three. Ipswich secured their second away win in four days, following Leeds’ 2-0 victory over Plymouth in the noon kick-off and Southampton’s triumph over West Bromwich Albion on Friday.

On Tuesday night, Ipswich visit Rotherham United at Portman Road. A win would bring them level on points with Leeds, who have a higher goal difference.

“I know those wins had zero impact on me, that’s the honest truth,” she remarked. “Sometimes you worry that such things would enter the group and cause them to be concerned about the results of other teams.

“We played some really gutsy football in terrible conditions, and our strategy of limiting them to free play opportunities was effective. It was an outstanding performance; those are the margins we’ll have to work for to keep winning at this level.”
