Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna admits Nathan Broadhead will be able to play against Southampton.

The Wales international has yet to play due to an injury received during the preseason.

However, Broadhead is fit enough to sit on the bench against the Saints this weekend.

“Almost everyone has participated in training this week,” McKenna told reporters.

“We have a few players dealing with different bruises and ailments, but everyone has contributed this week.

“Some are a little bit further behind who have missed pre-season, but the group’s looking really healthy.”

He also mentioned Broadhead and Harry Clarke, saying, “They both trained this week.” Nathan is a little bit further advanced than Harry. I believe he will be able to play some minutes this weekend due to his physical condition, which is a huge plus.

“Harry is still a little behind, but he has trained in the majority of the sessions this week, so if we are in desperate need, he should be able to get on the pitch for a few minutes this weekend.

“But we’re quite strong at that position, so it gives us fantastic depth now, and we know we’re in a period where there aren’t many games right now, so it’s a period for us to train and grow the squad while playing one league game per week 100 percent.

“But there’s going to come times over the course of the season where the schedule gets busier or we’re shorter on numbers now and we’re going to need everyone to make contributions and it’s great to have those options.”
