Kareem Hunt Has A Message For Browns Fans As He Prepares To Become A Free Agent

Kareem Hunt became a surprising spark for his local team this year after joining the Browns under sad circumstances following Nick Chubb’s season-ending knee injury.

Kareem Hunt will be remembered as one of the Browns’ feel-good tales of the 2023 season.

He returned to his hometown team in Week 3 after star running back Nick Chubb sustained a gruesome, season-ending knee injury the week before. Hunt remained unsigned during the summer, but his familiarity with the Cleveland system and culture made him an obvious pick to fill in for Chubb.

Hunt led the team in touchdowns this season with nine, coming out of a split backfield with Jerome Ford. He also had two touchdowns in the Browns’ 45-14 loss to the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs on Saturday.

Hunt’s future with the team is uncertain as Cleveland’s season comes to a close. He enters the summer as an unrestricted free agent, as he did last year. His contributions to the Browns reaching the playoffs for the second time in four years may earn him a job elsewhere.

If that happens, Hunt is not only happy for the opportunity to play for his hometown Browns, but he also admits that he will root for them.

“No matter what, even if I’m playing for another team or anything I will always be happy and satisfied if they bring a championship to Cleveland,” Hunt went on to say. “This is my hometown – s***” If that happened, I’d probably be there cheering them on as well. I hope nothing but the best for the Cleveland Browns organization. I’m grateful to have been a part of this adventure for so long.”

Hunt is the only player on the team who can relate to Northeast Ohio, so the message clearly comes from a relevant place. His influence extends far beyond the stat sheet, as he was a significant culture builder for the Browns this season.

Kevin Stefanski was well aware of this.

“I’m so appreciative of him and the way that he played and the style which he played, the Browns head man said.”We obviously didn’t have a spot prior to Nick’s injury. Kareem, on the other hand, stayed in terrific shape; we brought him in, worked him out, and he looked great. He quickly picked up the concept and played excellent football for us. He made plays in high-pressure situations and scored scores.

“He was extremely valuable to us.” He’s a fighter. I like the way he runs, his running technique. “Gave us a much-needed jolt.”
