Kansas City Chiefs have decided to part ways with a rookie they just recently signed

The Kansas City Chiefs’ primary priority this offseason has been to improve their wide receiver corps.

Despite signing Marquise Brown and selecting Xavier Worthy in the first round, they have continued to address this issue.

On Tuesday, the organization announced that wideout Jaaron Hayek would be joining the team after a successful tryout at the rookie minicamp this past weekend.

Unfortunately, Hayek’s arrival has meant bad news for another rookie receiver.

According to Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest, WR Reggie Brown will be removed to make room on the roster for Hayek. Brown has had an extraordinarily brief tenure in Kansas City, having been signed as a rookie free agency at the end of April after going undrafted.

Brown was an intriguing UDFA addition who could have flourished under different conditions. He has 53 receptions and 1,054 yards for James Madison in 2023, earning him All-American Honorable Mention.

Brown’s stunning 19.9 yards per reception in his final collegiate season demonstrated huge big-play potential at the next level, which complemented his 6-foot-1 and 195-pound frame.

However, the Chiefs’ decision to move on so soon and replace him with a guy at the same position indicates a strong opinion that Hayek is a better fit for this roster.

Still, Brown’s next steps are worth keeping an eye on as he approaches training camp. If he proves Kansas City incorrect, it’s not surprising that the organization contemplates a reunion to improve this WR corps, especially with the current uncertainty surrounding second-year pro Rashee Rice.
