Kam Alexander Discusses Oregon’s Commitment

Oregon received a pledge from USTA transfer cornerback Kameryn Alexander on Monday.

He explained his decision to Ducks Digest and offered a portion of his football story.

“Because of the people,” he explained his choice. “The environment is also incredible.” Few people visit that side of the country, particularly Oregon, and they are unaware of how beautiful the scenery is.The coaches are real, and it’s just a place to hang around. And it’s just a terrific circumstance all around for me to consider coming there.”

Antonio Parks, the assistant wide receivers coach who joined the Oregon staff ahead to the 2023 season, came over from USTA and was instrumental in his recruitment.

“With AP, he was the guy who pulled up my film so I could go to UTSA and show the coach.” So when he arrived in Oregon, he did the same thing, and he invited me to join him.” During his formal visit to Oregon this weekend, the newest Duck was able to form strong bonds with head coach Dan Lanning and the rest of the Oregon staff.

“Coach Lanning is a nice guy. “Alexander is one of the most genuine guys you’ll ever meet,” he remarked. “Tosh Lupoi is a lovely man, a smooth talker. All of the coaches on the coaching staff genuinely care about the players, therefore I’m all for people genuinely caring about the players, because at the end of the day, I want to be looked after.”

He wanted to see Eugene for himself before committing, so he boarded an aircraft destined for the Northwest to see what Oregon had to offer. “I was there for three days,” he explained, referring to his official visit. “Got to see a lot of stuff around the city, had a lot of stuff I was interested in as far as viewing the facilities and stuff like that.”I had never been to Oregon before, so I had no idea what to anticipate. I had never looked up any of Oregon’s facilities or anything like that, and it was just incredible when I pulled up and saw everything that could be in a football squad.”

Alexander got interest from all across the country, but he singled out Florida, Kentucky, TCU, and West Virginia as colleges that were “hitting me up constantly.”

He’ll join a cornerback room that includes Jahlil Florence, Dontae Manning, and Rodrick Pleasant, as well as plenty of new talent from the 2024 recruiting class. “I feel like I fit in well,” he said of the Ducks’ defense. “With them declaring a guy as a starter, I feel I could come in and help fill his role.”

Simply having the opportunity to come and compete for a slot is a blessing in and of itself. “I’d say the defense is fairly dominant. A key piece of the defense is returning, and I’m looking forward to connecting with them and possibly winning a championship with them.” He describes himself as a player and is eager to bring his coverage skills and quickness to Eugene.

“So my favorite player growing up was Tyrann Mathieu, so I kind of try to imitate my game as far as how he plays,” he explained. “On the field, I’m just willing to do my job and help the team win.” Just a completely closed-down corner. When I’m on the field, one side of the field is constantly closed off, and I expect to bring that to Oregon.”

Alexander intends to return to Eugene later this week to enroll at the University of Oregon. He concluded the interview by sending a message to Duck lovers. “All I want them to know is that I’m willing to put in the effort.” I simply feel like I’m one of those individuals who will never give up on the fans. They’ll get that out of me every week because they’re here every week to see something. I’m going to work hard enough to be able to demonstrate that and win every week.”
