Pickett, who was held on the bench for the Steelers’ playoff defeat to the Bills despite recovering from his injury, had only thrown 13 touchdowns and 13 picks in 25 games (24 starts) in his first two seasons.

Ryan Tannehill is another name linked to the Steelers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, who stated Sunday that Pittsburgh will “at least explore” reuniting the 35-year-old with new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the dismissed Falcons head coach who was the Titans’ offensive coordinator in 2019, 2020.

The Steelers released Trubisky on Monday, the same day ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated on “The Pat McAfee Show” that head coach Mike Tomlin is a “big fan” of Fields, whom the Bears may trade because they have the first selection in the 2024 NFL Draft and might select a quarterback.

That revelation follows Schefter’s Super Bowl Sunday story that the Bears had explored keeping Fields while still picking a quarterback at No. 1, most likely USC’s Caleb Williams.

The Bears drafted Fields, 24, No. 11 overall in 2021, and he recently finished his third season with 2,562 yards throwing, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 13 games, as well as 657 yards rushing and four rushing scores.

In 2022, Fields rushed for 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns, while passing for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

The Raiders are another likely landing point for Fields, as they hired Luke Getsy as their offensive coordinator after holding the same job in Chicago the previous two seasons.

Trubisky, who the Bears drafted second overall in 2017, played two games for the Steelers in 2023 after Pickett, the No. 20 selection in 2022, suffered an ankle injury and threw three interceptions in two losses. He was then benched for Mason Rudolph, who unexpectedly led the team to the playoffs.

On Monday, the Steelers cut quarterback Mitch Trubisky (10).
