Just In: Two key players dropped for Liverpool’s clash with West Ham

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez have been omitted from Liverpool’s starting lineup for the Premier League match against West Ham United at the London Stadium.

Both attackers were given the go-ahead from the start in the midweek Merseyside derby, but neither shone as the Reds lost 2-0 at Everton’s home ground.

Jurgen Klopp has responded to the Goodison Park defeat with five changes in the capital, two of which see Salah and Nunez take their spots on the bench in another daring selection decision from the leaving manager.

Harvey Elliott appears to be taking over on the right wing in Salah’s absence, while Cody Gakpo, who was out against Everton due to the birth of his child, will start ahead of Nunez.

Luis Diaz, the one attacker who performed admirably against Everton, remains on the left with Diogo Jota ill, but Klopp has made two more midfield changes.

Alexis MacAllister starts again, but Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones have been dropped to make room for Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo in the Reds starting lineup.

Jarrod Bowen back for West Ham

Furthermore, Jarell Quansah has been reinstated to the backline in lieu of Ibrahima Konate, while Stefan Bajcetic, who has been working out with the Under-21s since recovering from a calf injury, has been given a spot on the bench.

Meanwhile, West Ham manager David Moyes has made only one change to his squad, which was thrashed 5-2 by Crystal Palace last weekend, but the hosts’ change is crucial, as Jarrod Bowen is fit to return to the final third.

The England international missed the loss to the Eagles at Selhurst Park due to his Europa League exploits against Bayer Leverkusen, but he has been given the go-ahead to start the midday kickoff and replaces James Ward-Prowse in the hosts’ starting lineup.

Dinos Mavropanos did not make the cut, and with Nayef Aguerd also out due to an ankle injury, Angelo Ogbonna continues to play with Kurt Zouma in the heart of defence.

With a win at the London Stadium, Liverpool would reclaim second position from Manchester City, while West Ham will move up one spot to seventh place, ahead of Newcastle United.
