Ipswich are becoming more active in the market, and they are already looking for a second signing after Ben Johnson had a medical.

The West Ham No.2’s contract ends next week, and Ipswich have moved to sign him on a free transfer; the Guardian believes he has already passed his physical.

Now, Kieran McKenna‘s side are looking to sign another defender – one who Tottenham actually let go back in 2022.

Ipswich want Cameron Carter-Vickers

According to talkSPORT, Ipswich want to sign Celtic No.20 Cameron Carter-Vickers.

It is reported that Ipswich want to back McKenna in the market as he pursues a deal for the United States international, who has become an important player for Celtic since joining the Scottish giants for £6 million from Spurs in June 2022.

Carter-Vickers made 115 games with the Hoops, winning three Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and the Scottish League Cup thrice.

TalkSPORT does not go into detail about Ipswich’s interest in the Southend-on-Sea player, but it is also reported that McKenna has chosen to recruit Carl Rushworth from Brighton to be the No.1 at Portman Road in the Premier League.

Carter-Vickers appeared 31 times in the centre of defence for Celtic last season, scoring one goal and contributing one assist.

Tottenham could earn windfall from deal

A quick search of the internet reveals no news indicating that Tottenham negotiated a sell-on clause when transferring Carter-Vickers to Celtic in 2022.

However, these specifics are frequently kept under wraps, particularly for lower-profile transactions such as a £6 million trade, meaning Spurs might receive a percentage of whatever Ipswich may offer Celtic for the defender this summer.

Whether or not there is a sell-on clause, Tottenham should be proud to see one of their academy graduates being touted as the guy to help tighten up Ipswich’s backline and give the Tractor Boys the best chance of remaining in the Premier League.

Keep a watch on this scenario, as it may take a significant amount to get the 26-year-old out of Glasgow, given his contract continues until June 2029.
