Just In: Green Bay Packers Quarterback To Lose His Job

Many Green Bay Packers athletes will compete for roster spots when training camp begins next month.

For the past few days, the Packers had a mandated minicamp. More questions were answered over the last several days, but more will be resolved when next month arrives.

Jordan Love will start at quarterback for the Green Bay Packers this season. That is one of the few issues on the roster that Green Bay will not have to deal with when training camp begins next month.

It will be more vital to determine who will back up Jordan Love this season. Love spent several years as Aaron Rodgers’ backup quarterback before taking over as starter last season.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Sean Clifford Is In Danger Of Losing His Backup Quarterback Job To Rookie Michael Pratt

Sean Clifford was Jordan Love’s backup quarterback last season. Last season, Clifford was a rookie out of Penn State. He was taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft from Penn State. This year, Sean Clifford is competing with rookie Michael Pratt for the role of Jordan Love’s backup quarterback on the Green Bay Packers squad.

Sayre Bedinger of lombardiavenue.com believes Sean Clifford is one of five Green Bay Packers who could lose their job. Bedinger stated about Clifford:

“To say it’s been a tough OTAs for Sean Clifford might be an understatement. There’s nothing wrong with quarterbacks throwing an interception or two at practice, but Clifford threw three interceptions at Packers minicamp at their Tuesday practice session and another interception at their Wednesday practice session. Four interceptions in two days is a bit much, and it’s going to open the door more than just a crack for 2024 seventh-round pick Michael Pratt.

Pratt was an NFL Draft steal for the Packers in 2024 in the seventh round. There were a number of people talking about him as a third-to-fourth-round pick at the very worst, and Green Bay scooped him up after an inexplicable fall to the bottom of the draft.

Given the fact that Pratt has been impressive and Clifford has gone the opposite direction, the 2023 fifth-round pick could very well be on the proverbial chopping block when the Packers reconvene for training camp in July.”

Michael Pratt played for the Tulane Wave last season. During his senior year, he completed 65.4% of his passes for 2,406 yards, 22 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Pratt also rushed 286 yards on 98 carries and five touchdowns, along with averaging 2.9 yards per carry.

Pratt appears to have the advantage over Clifford at the time. Michael Pratt is only 22, but Sean Clifford is already 25 years old. Clifford will turn 26 on July 14. Pratt is younger and has far more potential as a quarterback than Sean Clifford has at this juncture in their football careers.
