Just In: Geno Smith’s new injury raises concerns

By defeating the San Francisco 49ers (9-3) in Week 14, the Seattle Seahawks (6-6) hope to snap a four-game losing streak.

However, Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is causing new alarm.

Smith has been struggling with a bruised tricep for weeks, but he was listed as a limited participant on Thursday’s injury report owing to a groin problem. Given that the 33-year-old informed reporters on Thursday, December 6 that his arm “was still not 100%” and “not close to it,” the addition of a groin ailment is concerning.

To overcome their division opponent at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, December 10, the Seahawks will need Smith to be near perfect. Seattle is a 10.5-point underdog versus San Francisco, but Smith believes they can overcome the odds.

Smith and company scored 35 points in last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and the offense is hoping to keep that momentum continuing.

“I think just overall, if you look at the way we played, just the effort we played with, the intent that we broke the huddle with, just the way that the receivers ran and caught the ball, the protection, anytime you’re scoring a lot of points, that’s something that you want to build on,” Smith told reporters after the game.

“We know that each game will be different, that each game is a different game.” You are given a new set of downs, and we must concentrate on executing one play at a time. We can build on it, but we must not get complacent as a result. We have to go out there and earn it each and every time.”

Seahawks QB Geno Smith Posted Graphic Photos of His Bruised Arm

On December 2, Smith posted a few unsettling photographs of his damaged elbow on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Nobody cares,” he captioned the post. “Put in more effort.” Smith removed the images afterward, but it was too late.

The images made quite a sensation on social media, as most fans and commentators were unaware of Smith’s situation. Smith exhibited no signs of injury against the Cowboys. He threw for 334 yards, three touchdowns, and a rushing score in one of his greatest games of the season.

One fan reacted, “God damn Geno’s elbow was F***** up,” while another person wrote, “What a tough guy Holy s*** 💀.”

“That is/was a gnarly bruise on Geno Smith’s throwing arm from a hit he took vs. the Rams in Week 11,” ESPN’s Brady Henderson said. Smith didn’t throw a pass in the three days building up to Thanksgiving against the 49ers. He had a routine week of practice leading up to Dallas and performed admirably (season-high 91.3 QBR).”

Smith suffered an elbow injury during the Seahawks’ 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11, but he played on Thanksgiving Day despite the pain. Smith tossed zero touchdowns in Seattle’s humiliating 31-13 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He completed 18-of-27 passes for 180 yards and one interception.

Geno Smith Called the 49ers Rematch ‘A Great Test For Us’

It’s only been a few weeks since the 49ers defeated the Seahawks 31-13 on Thanksgiving. During that game, the Seahawks offense did not score a single touchdown. Smith, on the other hand, sees the rematch as an excellent opportunity to make a statement.

“They’re a great team, great defense, and what we can expect is for them to be who they are, but we’re another great offense,” Smith went on to say. “I feel like we have a chance to really prove ourselves, to show what we’ve always known about ourselves.” This is a fantastic opportunity for us. They’re a fantastic team, and we’re excited about the possibility.”
