Just In: BYU Safety Provides Latest Injury Update Ahead Of 2024 Season
This season, BYU football’s defense will benefit from the return of Micah Harper.
Harper injured his ACL at fall camp in August of last year. It was his second ACL injury during his BYU career.
Harper, who is 5-foot-10 and weighs 195 pounds, last played a game in 2022. That season, he recorded 62 tackles, three pass deflections, and two caused fumbles.

He hopes to have a stronger impact on BYU’s defense in 2024. Harper confirmed to KSL Sports this week that he will be ready for the start of fall camp at the end of July.
“So I’m good to go.” I’m 100% right now. I’m full of energy. Harper told KSL Sports, “Doc gave me the okay, and I’ll be ready to go on July 31.”
The recent BYU graduate, who is starting his fifth year in Provo, wants to spread the idea that injuries do not have to define someone’s story.
“My hopes for myself are just to continue where I left off the previous time I competed in the New Mexico Bowl. I want to show everyone, including my family and myself, that I am well again. Or perhaps just folks who have sustained injuries. You can sustain a serious injury and it is not the end of the world. “You can come back stronger than when you left the field.”
Looking forward to playing in Jay Hill’s defense
Harper has yet to appear in a game for defensive coordinator/safeties coach Jay Hill. The Chandler, Arizona native is looking forward to the opportunity.
“Very excited. “I’ve been excited to play in Jay Hill’s defense since he arrived,” Harper said. Despite not being able to play last year, I participated in numerous practices for him. “I enjoyed every moment of it.”
The hard hitting Harper rejoins a safety unit with a wealth of playing experience following injuries to Harper, Talan Alfrey, and Tanner Wall last season. Harper is expected to be at the top of the group, with versatile athlete Talan Alfrey.
Tommy Prassas, a true freshman at BYU, was a noteworthy performer throughout spring practices. This fall, four-star freshman Faletau Satuala will join the mix.
“The safeties did amazing last year,” Harper said. “It took the entire safety unit to produce and complete what we did last year. We have a really deep bunch, arguably one of the deepest on the team. Everyone played minutes, everyone made plays, and the ones we didn’t make were ultimately learning experiences. Hopefully, this year, I’ll be able to offer as much as they did.
