Johann Gudmundsson delivers a vital message to his Burnley teammates after a devastating loss to West Ham

Following their heartbreaking loss to West Ham, Johann Gudmundsson has cautioned his Burnley teammates about the need of playing at full tilt for the entire ninety minutes.

Thanks to Jay Rodriguez’s penalty, the Clarets appeared to be on their way to their first home victory of the season on Saturday.

However, the Hammers grabbed the three points thanks to two late goals. In stoppage time, Tomas Soucek broke Burnley hearts, and in the 86th minute, Dara O’Shea scored an own goal to equalize.

“It’s obviously tough to take,” Gudmundsson said.

“I thought we played really well, but we lost and gave up two goals, so that’s really disappointing because this is a results-based game,” the coach said.

We’ll be closed today and tomorrow, and the new week will begin on Monday. We’ll analyze the game, consider both our positive and negative actions, try to draw lessons from it, and strive to win the next game by scoring three points.

Although the Clarets delivered a decent performance overall, they paid a harsh price for their inability to remain focused for the entire ninety minutes.

“We performed extremely well, in my opinion, but these crucial parts of the game require us to play with confidence for more than 90 minutes these days. Gudmundsson continued, “We have to realize that we cannot lack focus or anything else.

We are aware of the high caliber of play in this league, therefore we can’t afford to take a break.

We were playing pretty well, so it’s hard to accept that we scored two goals late. We had a couple opportunities to go ahead 1-0, and I felt that our defense was solid. However, I believe that we should strive to keep a clean sheet, especially at home.
