Joe Flacco Drops Silence on Recall to Browns

During a rare podcast appearance this week, Joe Flacco expressed enthusiasm for the Cleveland Browns and discussed his future plans.

On January 18, Flacco spoke with Big Cat and PFT Commenter on the “Pardon My Take” podcast and expressed his positive experience with the Browns.

“How lucky was I to get on a team that was ready to make a run like that and to be around a bunch of great guys in the locker room,” said quarterback Joe Flacco. “There was something unique about being there and how the people treated me. My family and I both felt a strong sense of affection. You could feel the excitement in the city. They want some postseason wins and a chance at the Super Bowl.”

During the regular season, Flacco led the Browns’ offense with 4-1 starts, passing for 1,616 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He played a key role in the Browns’ first playoff appearance since 2020, despite their numerous injuries.

However, the season’s feel-good story came to an abrupt end in the playoffs. Flacco threw two costly pick-sixes against the Houston Texans in a 45-14 Wild Card win.

Joe Flacco Feeling Reinvigorated After Time With Browns

Flacco, 39, is not ready to let the Wild Card loss conclude his narrative. He made it obvious that he wants to continue playing and is only looking for an opportunity.

I know I still want to play. But it’s just a question of having the chance to do it,” Flacco stated on the show. “You have no idea if it will happen or how it will manifest itself. But I am absolutely motivated to get back out there and accomplish it.”

Flacco spent the first few months of the season on the couch, relying on family members for fitness. Despite quarterback injuries across the league, Flacco’s phone did not ring with any openings, but he is not concerned. After all, the Browns’ call proved to be the perfect chance at the right time.

“It’s challenging. I believe that being around the league allows you to witness a variety of events. “Not everything makes sense,” Flacco remarked about not having an opportunity until mid-November. “It’s difficult for me to think about the calls I didn’t get since I did eventually get one, and it was a pretty wonderful one.

“You want to be in a positive atmosphere with good football players and coaches. I believe that’s why I was put in.”

Browns Coy About Bringing Joe Flacco Back

Flacco’s play caused a momentary quarterback controversy in Cleveland. He boosted the Browns’ offense, placing pressure on Deshaun Watson, Cleveland’s $230 million quarterback.

Watson has passed for 2,217 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions in his two seasons with the Browns. He has appeared in 12 games overall. His most recent campaign was hampered by shoulder issues. Watson underwent surgery to correct a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder on November 21. He is anticipated to be ready for camp next season.

This year demonstrated the Browns’ need for a reliable backup to Watson. Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round rookie, has potential but needs more time to develop. Flacco may benefit from another year as Watson’s backup. Kevin Stefanski praised Flacco but isn’t ready to discuss his quarterback position moving forward just yet.

Stefanski stated on January 14 that he will delegate decision-making to general manager Andrew Berry during the offseason. “I’ll say this about Joe. Joe was fantastic for this football team. He performed an excellent job and battled tirelessly. I know he enjoyed it. I have enormous admiration for Joe and what he was able to accomplish.”

Many players have expressed a desire for Flacco to return. However, Flacco will most likely look for a circumstance in which he can get started. That will not be the case in Cleveland, since Watson’s return is imminent.
