Jimmy Johnson returns to the Dallas Cowboys with an intriguing new role for Jerry Jones

Former head coach Jimmy Johnson and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appear to have resolved their feud.

If Johnson’s induction into the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor isn’t enough, the Super Bowl-winning coach’s return to the franchise in a unique new role should be.

Jimmy Johnson’s Role With the Dallas Cowboys

Johnson discussed his unofficial status with the Cowboys during a recent interview with Joe Rose on WQAM 560 AM in Miami. He stated that since being inducted into the Ring of Honor, he has become a member of Jones’ advisory board.

Although he does not have an official title, Johnson stated that he is “back in the fold” with the Cowboys. After their Wild Card loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys’ two-time Super Bowl winner and team owner had a lengthy meeting to discuss future steps.

“We were on the phone about an hour after his Green Bay loss, and he was discussing what he needed to do because he had significant decisions to make with Mike McCarthy, Dan Quinn, and Dak Prescott. Everything is OK now. Johnson confirmed his return to the Cowboys on the team’s official website.

Johnson continues to broadcast and has a deal with FOX Sports. Having said that, he’s unlikely to be on the Cowboys’ official roster. However, this does not exclude him from offering counsel to Jones and the rest of the squad.

Johnson coached the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 to 1993, leading the team to three consecutive postseason appearances and two Super Bowl victories in 1992 and 1993.

“We were working around the clock together. People are unaware of the relationship we have. Jerry and I used to talk every day. Every day, I would be in his office. “And we never really had a disagreement, which surprises a lot of people, but we were always on the same page,” Johnson said of his time with Jones.

“And probably some of the tension happened there at the end of my career, as far as with the Cowboys, we were so busy going in different directions that we didn’t talk as much.

My feelings for Jerry have not changed. I adore the dude. He is a significant component, if not the most important, of my entire career.”

It’s unclear how Johnson can help the Cowboys, but given his winning track record, having him advise Jones won’t hurt.
