Jim Montgomery Confirms Report Following Great Brandon Carlo Game

Monday was a day Brandon Carlo will never forget.

Carlo and his wife welcomed their first son two days after the Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. Crew Carlo’s early arrival paved the way for a hectic day for the Boston defenseman, who traveled privately to Florida and arrived at Amerant Bank Arena about two hours before the Bruins and Panthers faced off in their second-round series opening.

The 27-year-old didn’t just play in Game 1 against the reigning Eastern Conference champs; he shone. Carlo played over 19 minutes and scored a rare goal in Boston’s 5-1 win.

After the game, several Bruins reporters said David Pastrnak recovered the puck from Carlo’s goal so that the eighth-year pro may one day present it to his son. Jim Montgomery was unsure whether Pastrnak did the honors, but the puck is certainly in Carlo’s possession.

“Someone snagged it,” Montgomery told reporters on Tuesday, according to a video released by the team. “I don’t know who snagged it, but someone snagged it.”

Carlo and the Bruins will look to keep their momentum going Wednesday night when they visit the Panthers for Game 2 of their best-of-seven series. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. ET, but pregame coverage will begin an hour earlier on NESN+.
