OU junior wide receiver Jayden Gibson had a knee injury in practice Tuesday and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, according to SoonerScoop.com sources.

Gibson is starting his third season with the Sooners. He was anticipated to play a bigger part this season after appearing in all 13 games last year. In 2023, he recorded 15 receptions for 387 yards and five touchdowns. Gibson’s performance in 2023 led many to believe he was on track for a breakout season. That is now in question after Gibson was injured on the fifth practice of fall camp.

Prior to Gibson’s injury, OU had a few wide receivers out injured. Seniors Andrel Anthony and Jalil Farooq have both attempted to recover from leg injuries. Anthony tore his ACL in the Texas game last year and is running routes for the first time this fall. Farooq injured his foot in the spring and has been fully participating in fall camp, with the expectation of returning for the season. With Gibson out for an unknown amount of time, Oklahoma’s talented receiving room will need some young players to step up.

The Sooners do have several options, with Purdue transfer Deion Burks and junior Nic Anderson leading the way. It also has some outstanding freshmen, like Zion Kearney and Ivan Carreon, who both arrived in the spring. But if Gibson is gone for a lengthy period of time, it will undoubtedly be a blow to OU’s receiving corps.
