J.J. McCarthy will set up the NFL Combine

J.J. McCarthy’s draft status is rising, and it will only get higher once he does well at the NFL the combine.

People can call me crazy, but I believe Michigan football quarterback J.J. McCarthy is as talented as any quarterback in the 2024 NFL draft.

I believe Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, and Jayden Daniels are all exceptional players. However, McCarthy is the complete package. He simply did not have as many opportunities to showcase his abilities while playing football for Michigan.

But if you look past the metrics, you can see an exceptional quarterback on film. He’s young and should be more consistent. Drafting him in the top ten or perhaps top five is a gamble, but one that will pay off handsomely.

Latest J.J. McCarthy draft projections

CBS Sports recently predicted McCarthy as the No. 11 overall pick for the Minnesota Vikings. He would become the first Michigan football quarterback selected in the first round since Jim Harbaugh.

However, I don’t see him lasting very long. There are QB-needy clubs ahead of the Vikings, as well as others capable of trading up into the top ten. McCarthy, who will throw during the NFL draft combine this week, is going to light it up.

McCarthy can make any throw. I’ve seen him make throws reminiscent of Aaron Rodgers or Patrick Mahomes. He also runs 4.5 in the 40-meter dash and may be the most underappreciated athlete in the whole NFL draft.

Beyond that, he is refined, a fantastic Leader, clutch, and an outright winner. He’s the guy you want as the face of your franchise for the next decade.
