J.J. McCarthy trusts ‘Michigan Man’ Sherrone Moore

Sherrone Moore, the new head coach at Michigan, faces a daunting challenge and must fill some huge shoes.

Jim Harbaugh, the current head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, walked away from Ann Arbor with a national championship.

Moore is now facing those expectations.

To make matters worse for the offensive coordinator-turned-head coach, his defensive coordinator from last season, Jesse Minter, has accompanied Harbaugh to the NFL. Moore will also be losing numerous top players to the NFL Draft, including J.J. McCarthy.

However, the budding quarterback prospect does not appear to be concerned about Michigan’s future.

McCarthy, speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, feels Moore has the potential to flourish at Michigan.

“Amazing,” McCarthy said when asked how he things Moore will do in his first season, per On3. “The most important quality of a head coach at the University of Michigan is being a Michigan man and he’s got that. He’s earned his stripes and the boys love him, they’re behind him, and with those two things they’re gonna be successful no matter what.”

McCarthy is correct that Moore earned his stripes at Michigan. Simply check at his resume from 2023.

He went 4-0 as interim head coach last season when Jim Harbaugh was suspended. That includes victories over No. 10 Penn State at Happy Valley and No. 2 Ohio State in “The Game.”

Throw in the fact that he was the offensive coordinator for Michigan’s first title triumph since 1997, and he’s shown that he’s ready to take over full-time.
