Sammie Szmodics is relishing the opportunity to play in the Premier League following his summer move from Blackburn Rovers to Ipswich Town.

The 29-year-old has worked tirelessly throughout his career to reach this stage, having appeared on numerous occasions in the Championship, League One, and League Two.

His blistering form last season gave him the opportunity to join the Blues and finally realize his ambition of playing in the Premier League, and despite the fact that he can already feel the difference in quality compared to the second division, he insists he’s enjoying every minute of it.

“The Premier League, obviously the best players in the world want to play in it,” he told me.

“Going into games makes me want to chuckle. It is my dream, and I am here. Every week is like a Manchester City game; you’re prepping all week and attending meetings. The lads are undoubtedly feeling the same way in the changing room.

“We are looking over individual clips of Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland. You think these guys are superstars.

“We have to recognise that we are in the same league as them. For example, when you play against West Ham, they are no longer just a Premier League team. We are exactly the same.

“You need to keep focused. The intensity is ten times higher than at the Championship level. You must stay focused for much longer.

“When compared to the Championship, Premier League games have a lot more complexity and individual involvement.

“You may only have one chance in a Premier League game, so take it. In the Championship, you will go five for six. It’s all about being clinical in both areas.
