“It would have been a perfect deal”- Blues fan pundit reacts to missed target

Birmingham City had a somewhat active January transfer window.

The Blues reunited Tony Mowbray with Alex Pritchard, a former Sunderland player. The 30-year-old winger has joined the club for an unknown amount and a two-and-a-half-year contract, subject to FA approval. Pritchard’s contract with the Black Cats expired at the end of the season. According to The Sun, he and the club were unable to reach an agreement owing to the planned contract duration. He wanted a move, as reported by The Mirror.

Seung-ho Paik from Jeonbuk Hyundai arrived late, and QPR midfielder Andre Dozzell was loaned in midway through the window.

The Blues considered several wingers, including Pritchard. Mowbray is interested in signing Queens Park Rangers wide man Ilias Chair before the transfer market closes on February 1, 2024. In fact, it went beyond the initial interest.

According to Darren Witcoop, the Blues attempted to sign the 26-year-old Moroccan player more than a week before the transfer window closed. The Rs rejected an undisclosed deal, and Witcoop stated that Birmingham would not make another offer on deadline day.

This season, Chair has five assists and three goals for QPR, who are struggling. In the 23/24 Championship season, he had an average match rating of 7.19/10 on Sofascore.

“He would have been an excellent signing”

Blues fan pundit Mike Gibbs shared his thoughts on the club’s failed effort to sign the 26-year-old player.

Gibbs believes that Chair would have been a valuable addition to Mowbray’s team.

“When I saw him play, I was full with admiration for him. He is a creative player who orchestrates and leads a game. He’s incredibly technical, and he’s exactly the type of player Mowbray would want on his team.

He added: “It is what it is. I think we’re pretty well stocked in that department anyway, if you look at the players that we already had, and the ones we brought in. We’ve got a plethora of attacking midfielders now, so it’ll be interesting to see how they slot into the system and who gets the minutes.”
