Kyle Edwards, a former Ipswich Town winger, has rejoined Oxford United on a short-term contract.

The 26-year-old joined the U’s last season, initially on loan from the Blues and then on a deal until the end of the 2023/24 season after his Town contract was terminated by mutual consent in January.

Edwards was dismissed following their promotion to the Championship due to a hamstring injury that ended his season early.

He completed his rehab with Des Buckingham’s team and has done enough in pre-season to demonstrate his fitness, signing a contract through January.

After re-signing, Edwards stated: “This has been a difficult moment in my career to struggle through injury, but I am grateful for everything the club and the people around me have done to assist me return to fitness.

“It was my ambition all summer to fight my way back and to show that I could be part of the team again, so when the club came to me with this contract it was a no-brainer.”

He continued, “I am so determined to get back on the pitch and do what I love. I want to try and deliver for the team and reciprocate their faith in me.

“The team have started the season so well and I’m excited to be part of this special time for everyone involved.”

He will team up with former Town players Greg Leigh and Idris El Mizouni at the Kassam Stadium. Oxford is currently tenth in the Championship, with two wins from their first four games.

Edwards made 63 appearances for Town, scoring three goals after signing from West Brom in 2021.
