Is Alabama looking for an offensive lineman through the NCAA transfer portal?

Alabama football signed 23 freshmen, including three offensive linemen, in its 2024 recruiting class.

Nick Saban is pleased with Casey Poe (four-star), Will Sanders (four-star), and Joseph Ionata (three-star), but is he done recruiting for that position? After signing day and practice on Wednesday, the 72-year-old spoke with media about the offensive line. Poe, Sanders, and Ionata all have potential, but Saban understands that the offensive line is a work in progress.

He is not ruling out the possibility of using the NCAA transfer portal.

“We think they have a lot of potential,” Saban says of Poe, Sanders, and Ionata.

“Those are guys we believe have a lot of potential; we know a lot about them, and we had them in camp.” We are pleased to have them here because we believe they will develop into good prospects and players. I believe we are still seeking for offensive lineman of such caliber. We are grateful to have them, but we are still searching to fill that position.”

JC Latham is expected to leave Alabama for the NFL Draft. Seth McLaughlin and Darrian Dalcourt are also leaving.

Alabama has had success with transfer Landon Dickerson. He arrived from Florida State as an offensive guard in 2019, then as a center, he guided the Crimson Tide win the College Football Playoff National Championship in 2020. In 2022, the Tide signed offensive tackle Tyler Steen. We’ll see who the Tide’s newest pick from the portal on the offensive line is.
