Ipswich trying to sign “excellent” talent ahead of Leeds

Although much of their attention will surely be on recovering their automatic Championship promotion spot from Leeds United, Ipswich Town might yet go one over on the Midlands club in the transfer market by landing a potential gem.

Ipswich Town Transfer News

Regardless of how the promotion fight plays out, Kieran McKenna and Ipswich deserve a lot of credit for getting to where they are now, having just recently returned to England’s second division last season.

It would be a historic occasion if they were able to secure back-to-back promotions, but with Leeds gaining the automatic position in recent weeks, it remains to be seen whether Ipswich can pull off the hitherto inconceivable.

Whether they end up in the Premier League or the Championship next season, Ipswich’s transfer philosophy will stay unchanged as they seek to build for the long term.

In the January transfer window, the Tractor Boys took a similar tactic, signing 21-year-old Ali Al-Hamadi from AFC Wimbledon and Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

With the summer transfer window quickly approaching, McKenna and Co. may look to sign another gem. According to the Daily Record, Ipswich are interested in signing Bobby Wales from Kilmarnock after he performed well on loan at Alloa Athletic in Scotland’s League One.

If Ipswich wish to recruit the 18-year-old this summer, they will have to overcome Leeds and Stoke City in what might be a tight competition.

The Tractor Boys will be hoping that by the time the transfer window opens, they will have the advantage of Premier League football over fellow promotion rivals Leeds. The youth is unquestionably one for the future, albeit it is unclear where that future will take him.

“Excellent” Wales is one for the future.

Given the Championship’s interest, it’s safe to conclude that the forward has excelled while on loan at Alloa Athletic this season, with Wales’ statistics revealing an attractive picture.

This season, the youthful attacker has nine goals and three assists in nine games across all competitions. Derek McInnes may have to consider a Kilmarnock first-team position for the kid as more game time and goals come his way.

Wales has already gained a lot of supporters in Scotland, with The Young Team, an account dedicated to scouting young Scotland players, previously posting on X:

Ipswich will be looking to benefit from this type of quality, especially if they can outbid Leeds for his services this summer and get an advantage over their Championship opponents.
