Ipswich Town Will Make January Transfer For £2 Million 15-Goal Striker

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Town have contacted with Premier League side Fulham about potentially signing teenage centre-forward Jay Stansfield on loan in January.

The Tractor Boys are five games unbeaten in the Championship, having collected 13 points from a possible 15. They are keeping pressure on league leaders Leicester City ahead of the two clubs’ Boxing Day encounter at Portman Road, which may have major implications in the title fight.

Ipswich Town are also the top scorers in England’s second division this season, with 47 goals in 22 games, an average of 2.1 goals per game. Furthermore, Kieran McKenna’s squad has featured 14 different goal scorers throughout all competitions.

Conor Chaplin and Nathan Broadhead presently lead Ipswich’s scoring charts with eight goals each, with George Hirst close behind on six, but the striker has also scored seven assists.

Nonetheless, McKenna is seeking to add more goals to his squad ahead of the season’s second half. According to the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Town are interested in signing Fulham striker Jay Stansfield this winter.

Stansfield is now on loan at Birmingham City, where he has five goals in 20 games despite the club’s struggles since Wayne Rooney took charge in October.

Ipswich, on the other hand, is searching for a long-term deal for the 22-year-old. According to the report, the East Anglian club is willing to go above and beyond their £3 million winter transfer budget.

The teenage frontman’s market value is estimated to be £2.2 million by Football Transfers, but Stansfield still has a contract until 2027 with the option to extend it by another year, so Ipswich may have to pay a little more.

Since the start of the 2019/20 season, Stansfield has scored 53 goals in 116 games across all competitions, including 15 goals in 67 appearances for his boyhood club Exeter City and now Birmingham City.

The teenage striker is rising through the ranks, and a move to Ipswich Town might pave the way for him to play first-team games in the Premier League next season. However, given that Fulham awarded Stansfield such a huge contract, a sale is unlikely.
