Ipswich Town to battle with Wigan for 22-goal star

According to reporter Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, Wigan Athletic has entered the race for Altrincham striker Chris Conn-Clark.

Wigan Athletic have become the latest Football League club connected with a move for the National League star. They are preparing for another season in League One, led by Shaun Maloney.

Conn-Clarke, 22, appears to be in high demand ahead of the forthcoming transfer window, and his present team may struggle to maintain him. According to FootballTransfers, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth, Peterborough United, and Mansfield Town are all interested in signing him.

According to journalist Nixon’s recent Patreon update on his future, the Latics have entered the chase for his signature as they want to enhance their attacking ranks in the coming months. This past season, they ended 12th on the table, 14 points shy of the playoffs.

Conn-Clarke could help Wigan Athletic improve their attacking ranks.

The former Northern Ireland youth international scored 22 goals in all competitions for Altrincham last season, helping the club reach the play-offs. However, they were defeated in the semi-finals by eventual champions Bromley.

He started his career with spells as a youngster at Linfield and Glentoran before Burnley lured him over to England in 2018.

Conn-Clarke was on Turf Moor’s books for three years but did not appear for the Clarets’ first team. Instead, he was loaned to Chorley in the National League North to gain experience before leaving permanently.

Fleetwood Town signed him and he played five games for the Cod Army during his tenure there. He was sent to Waterford to gain game experience before joining Altrincham on a temporary basis.

The North West outfit then signed him permanently last summer, and he hasn’t looked back since.

Wigan Athletic eye move

If Wigan Athletic signs Conn-Clarke, he will be an eye-catching addition to the club.

He wouldn’t have to go far if he switched to the DW Stadium, and he would most likely earn more minutes with Maloney’s club than with a Championship team like Portsmouth.
