Ipswich Town Takes A Closer Step To Sign £5 Million Key Target

Ipswich Town are looking for new attacking players this summer and have expressed interest in Millwall star Zian Flemming, according to reports last week.

The Tractor Boys are back in the top flight for the first time since 2002, and while they are still celebrating their promotion, work has begun behind the scenes to strengthen the squad ahead of what will be a difficult fight to stay in the Premier League next season.

Portman Road has become an extremely appealing proposition for players, having risen from League One to the Premier League in a span of 12 months. Furthermore, the Suffolk-based team is expected to earn £150 million in its first season back in the top tier of English football.

This additional money will allow Ipswich Town to become more active on the transfer market. The South London Press reported this week that Kieran McKenna’s side is one of several suitors for Millwall star Flemming. The newspaper also claims that the Lions are ready for offers for the Dutchman this summer, implying that they may be willing to let the 25-year-old leave for the appropriate price.

Journalist Alan Nixon provided an update on the transfer drama, noting that the London club is holding out for £5 million and will most likely accept an offer from any interested parties if they meet this valuation.

Millwall had a difficult season, fighting to avoid relegation for the entirety of the season before Neil Harris was re-appointed as head coach. The Dutch forward finished as the team’s top goalscorer and assister, with nine goals and six assists across all competitions. Now he might be on his way to Ipswich this summer.

In the past, clubs that were promoted to the Premier League spent a lot of money in the hopes of surviving. Fulham in prior seasons and Burnley this season are two examples of clubs that tried everything to avoid relegation but finally failed.

There is a risk that Ipswich Town may be relegated next season, therefore the recruiting team will need to be strategic in the transfer market to keep the squad from becoming overpriced and bloated. Signing Flemming for just £5 million would be a wise decision, especially if the club is unable to re-sign Jeremy Sarmiento and Omari Hutchinson this summer.
