Ipswich Town: Southampton suffers Ryan Fraser injury setback

Southampton suffered an injury setback in their shocking 2-1 home loss to Millwall yesterday.

Ryan Fraser, a former Ipswich Town winger who has eight league goals and three assists for the Saints this season, was pulled off after only 19 minutes at St Mary’s.

Manager Russell Martin told the Daily Echo, “It’s a sore one.” He suffered a hit on the knee. I’m not sure how bad things are right now. With his current situation, he will be unavailable for the Liverpool encounter. He is on crutches.

“Wee Man came off, and we lost a lot. We lost a lot of running and the possibility of assists and goals.

“The other men have to contribute. We did not have Arma (Adam Arsmtrong) on the pitch because he was so weary. He was fantastic in the last several weeks.

“When they are not on the pitch, the other players must contribute as well. Unfortunately, we did not receive it again.

Southampton’s midfielder Flynn Downes has missed the last four games due to injury, while striker Ross Stewart is still sidelined.

The South Coast club embarked on a club-record 25-game unbeaten streak in all competitions from the end of September to the middle of February, but have since lost three of their past four games to Bristol City, Hull, and Millwall.

Back in fourth place, they are five points behind Leeds and Ipswich in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Martin admits his club ‘could do without’ their FA Cup fifth round clash at Anfield on Wednesday night.

Leeds United won their ninth league game in a straight on Friday night, coming from behind to upset league leaders Leicester City 3-1 at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s side is also in FA Cup action on Wednesday night, travelling to Chelsea.

Leicester, who have lost two straight games, reducing their lead at the top to six points, also have an away game against Premier League opponents. They travel to Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
