Ipswich Town showing fresh interest on rivals centre-back

Ipswich Town have yet to make their interest in Hull City’s Jacob Greaves clear.

According to The Athletic, the newly promoted side will be among several clubs interested in signing the defender this summer.

Kieran McKenna will be trying to strengthen his team for life in the Premier League following last season’s spectacular Championship second-place finish.

Greaves has received numerous accolades for his achievements for the Tigers, establishing himself as one of the division’s finest emerging stars.

The centre-back appeared 43 times in the league, scoring two goals and assisting four others as Liam Rosenior guided the Yorkshire club to seventh place.

Ipswich Town’s Jacob Greaves interest

Greaves has emerged as a transfer target for the Suffolk club this summer, following an outstanding season in the second tier.

However, it is known that no communication has yet been made between the two clubs regarding a prospective trade.

According to reports, Hull will not stand in Greaves’ way if he wants to transfer, but they would want to keep him in the squad.

Ipswich will face competition in the race to recruit the 23-year-old, with other clubs reportedly interested.

Everton and West Ham have also been linked with a move for the defender, with Jarrad Branthwaite’s future potentially determining the Toffees’ pursuit of the Hull star.

The Championship side is also expecting interest from several teams in Jaden Philogene, who impressed in the second tier last year.

The forward scored 12 goals and six assists in 32 league appearances.

It is unclear what amount will be required to persuade Hull to cash in on both players, but it likely be in the eight figures.

Big weeks for Tim Walter ahead

Tim Walter was named as Hull manager earlier this summer, following Rosenior’s resignation at the end of the season.

The German will have to make some tough decisions about his first-team squad for next season, especially if Greaves and Philogene are sold.

If they leave, the two will bring in a lot of money for the club, which will need to be reinvested in new additions.

This will be an important aspect in Hull’s prospective promotion push next year, with the Tigers eyeing another struggle for a top six finish even without Greaves and Philogene.

Greaves exit should command up to £20 million fee

Greaves performed admirably in the Championship last year and is a promising all-around player.

He is very capable on the ball, strong defensively, and can even contribute offensively, all while being a left-sided defender, making him a unique breed.

A transfer to the Premier League is the logical next step in his career, and signing for Ipswich would be particularly thrilling considering their rising trajectory.

However, any move for Greaves is expected to cost around £20 million, and it is unclear whether Ipswich will be willing to pay that much on one player this summer.
