Ipswich Town set to splash £50 Million on double swoop deals

Following their promotion from the Championship, Ipswich Town are eager to spend big, with two players still contracted at Chelsea catching their eye.

According to The Guardian, the Tractor Boys want to make forward Omari Hutchinson a permanent fixture at Portman Road after helping Kieran McKenna’s team secure promotion this season in order to avoid a quick return to the Championship the following season. This season, Hutchinson scored ten goals and assisted six others in the league.

TransferMarkt now values the Jamaican international at £7 million, but sources claim he may be transferred for up to £20 million, with the club increasing their interest in signing him. However, the Tractor Boys will have to compete with European purchasers, with Stuttgart among those thought to value the 20-year-old.

Despite Chelsea extended Hutchinson’s contract until 2026, it is unlikely that the former Arsenal and Chelsea academy star will stay at Stamford Bridge. The only saving grace could be the appointment of Enzo Maresca, the soon-to-be-announced Chelsea manager, who can still decide the Jamaican’s future.

Ipswich continue to be associated with Armanda Broja, a £30 million-rated Albanian target who is also on the outskirts at Chelsea, according to The Express. Ipswich Town, who have been interested in Broja since the beginning of the month, have received a boost with the striker’s asking price reduced from £50 million to £30 million.

Despite never finding continuous success in the Premier League, the Albanian brings plenty of physical traits to the table, and McKenna clearly recognizes the 22-year-old’s potential. Broja, like Hutchinson, has a four-year contract but is expected to leave this summer.

If Ipswich wish to make Broja their club record signing, they will have to fight with a number of interested clubs from the Championship, Premier League, and Europe. Southampton, Watford, AC Milan, and Monaco are all reportedly interested in signing the striker. Fabrizio Romano claimed that Monaco is currently leading the race.

Kieran McKenna’s new four-year contract with Ipswich Town has allowed the Tractor Boys to lay the groundwork for their Premier League survival bid. Regardless of the meager prize money Championship clubs earn for automatic promotion to the top level, it is the eventual eye-watering wealth that the Premier League provides that will cover such pricey transfers.

Even parachute payments following relegation would cover a £50 million outlay, indicating that the movements are financially sustainable. Despite this, many Ipswich fans may be concerned about McKenna’s change of direction from last year, when he built a club with savvy cheap acquisitions and loan deals, combined with tremendous team spirit and mindset, that propelled his side to the promised land of promotion.

Hutchinson’s permanent signing is the most sensible and likely move, given the attacker has already demonstrated his ability to play in an Ipswich shirt, and coaches will be hoping he can continue where he left off last season. Broja, on the other hand, will cost more and is a major gamble, having already struggled in the highest tier of English football, and he appears to be more interested in a move outside.

Common reason would dictate that £20 million be spent on Hutchinson, with the remainder of the transfer budget going towards doing what Ipswich has excelled at: investing wisely.
