Ipswich Town are reportedly prepared to pay £15 million to recruit Burnley goalkeeper Arijanet Muric.

According to journalist Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, the Clarets’ goalkeeper is ready to make a swift return to the Premier League following Burnley’s relegation last year, with newly promoted Ipswich Town paying a whopping £15 million to bring him to Portman Road.

Muric was primarily second-choice for the Clarets last season behind James Trafford, although he started the final ten games as Vincent Kompany’s side was relegated to the Championship after only one season.

With much of transfer interest in the aforementioned Trafford, it was believed that Muric would be Scott Parker’s number one this season in the Championship, but he appears to be heading to Suffolk to join Kieran McKenna’s side.

Arijanet Muric set for shock Ipswich Town move

Following their promotion to the Premier League, Ipswich manager McKenna will aim to boost his team in a number of positions, and he believes Burnley shot-stopper Muric is the answer to their goalkeeping woes.

The Tractor Boys currently have Christian Walton and Cieran Slicker as their two senior goalkeeper options, but Walton made only four appearances for Ipswich last season, one of which was in the league, and Slicker is a 21-year-old with only two appearances for the club, demonstrating the importance of finding a new goalkeeper.

Vaclav Hladky was Ipswich’s number one goalkeeper last season as they gained promotion, but the Czech shot-stopper has left after turning down a new contract, leaving The Tractor Boys woefully short of options between the sticks.

Despite being relegated with Burnley last season, Kosovo international Muric has top-flight experience, having previously played for Manchester City, Girona, and Turkish club Adana Demirspor, making him an upgrade on what McKenna presently has at his disposal.

The 25-year-old still has two years left on his contract at Turf Moor, and Ipswich are set to pay £15 million for him. That’s a lot of money for a player with only 10 Premier League appearances, but McKenna clearly likes him, and he’s certainly not out of Ipswich’s price range now that they have Premier League money.

Muric is expected to be Ipswich’s number one next season, and Burnley could be on the search for a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks.

Arijanet Muric departure gives Burnley a goalkeeper headache

Trafford was anticipated to leave Burnley this summer, with Muric taking over as the club’s number one this season, but news of his impending transfer to Ipswich, along with interest in Trafford, suggests that the Clarets may be low on goalkeeper choices.

If Trafford and Muric both go, Burnley will only have Lawrence Vigouroux as their senior goalkeeper, following the recent departure of Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Parker with an early challenge to address, and while the £15 million for Muric will be well-received by the club’s board, it provides the coaching staff a genuine headache.

Muric was a mainstay in the Burnley side that gained promotion to the Premier League during the 2022/23 season, and he’ll be a major loss to the Clarets with the Championship season commencing in under a month’s time.
