Ipswich Town named star as player of the year

Captain Sam Morsy has been voted the Supporters Club’s Player of the Year.

Morsy received the award on the pitch after a 1-1 draw with his previous club Middlesbrough at Portman Road, while manager Kieran McKenna received the Irene Davey Patron Award, named after the long-time Supporters Club patron who died earlier this year.

Manager Kieran McKenna stated after the game that his captain is a deserving winner of the Harwich Rosebowl.

“He has [been] quite consistent. “I believe it was a well-deserved winner,” he remarked. “There have been so many youngsters who have stood up, but I believe Samy has demonstrated excellent leadership on the pitch and at training.

“But on top of that, the quality of his performances, the way he’s dictating games on and off the ball, the details in his game now that weren’t there two years ago that he’s worked so hard on, and the fitness to be available for so many games, he’s another one who’s just done five 90-minute games in a row. “A testament to him, and well deserved.”

Wes Burns won the Portman Road Moment of the Season title for his goal against Coventry, while Jeremy Sarmiento received the Unforgettable Moment award for his late victory over Southampton.

Sophie Peskett earned the Women’s Player of the Year award before to the game, and Finley Barbrook was named Academy Player of the Year.
