Ipswich Town manager aiming at coaching Champions League club

According to German news agency Bild, Stuttgart is interested in Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna in the event that Sebastian Hoeneß quits.

Ipswich Town are now vying for promotion to the Premier League under the highly regarded coach.

McKenna, 37, led the Tractor Boys to a second-place finish in League One last season, and they have easily transitioned to the next league.

According to Bild (via Sport Witness), Stuttgart is a fan and has identified him as a potential long-term replacement for Hoeneß, who recently signed a new contract in an attempt to fight off interest from abroad. They also enjoy Fabian Hürzeler at St. Pauli.

These links are favorable to McKenna and a credit to his efforts at Ipswich. According to Bild, the future of Hoeneß, who has piqued the interest of Bayern Munich, will determine whether anything materializes.

Stuttgart is currently third in the Bundesliga table and is attempting to qualify for the Champions League.

McKenna was rehired by the Tractor Boys in 2021. Prior to joining Portman Road, he was a coach at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

He got the Suffolk team promoted from the third tier, and they are now in second place in the Championship, trailing Leicester City and competing with the Foxes, Leeds United, and Southampton.

McKenna’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, so Ipswich is in a good position to keep him for now.

His team won 3-2 at home to Bristol City the last time out, so his emphasis is on promotion right now. They return to action this weekend, traveling to Wales to face Cardiff City, as they attempt to maintain their momentum with 10 matches remaining.
