Ipswich Town man admits to transfer amid game time problems

Lewis Travis, an Ipswich Town loan player, has acknowledged he’s ‘a bit gutted’ not to have joined sooner because he believes it would have helped his push for more minutes.

Travis signed for Ipswich Town during the January transfer window. He witnessed a transaction sanctioned by Blackburn Rovers, which astonished many and appeared to be an amazing signing for Kieran McKenna.

Travis, despite being captain at Ewood Park and having extensive Championship experience, has struggled to find game time at Portman Road. He has only appeared five times, serving as an unused substitute on five occasions in all competitions.

The midfield combo of Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo has been difficult to break up.

Travis has since stated that he believes he would have had a better chance of making the Ipswich Town squad if he had arrived before the start of the season. The East Anglian Daily Times cited him as saying:

A tight place.
It’s not easy to be a backup midfielder at Ipswich Town. Morsy and Luongo played key roles in the club’s climb from League One, and their Championship experience and pedigree have allowed them to take the next level smoothly this season.

Given McKenna’s team’s success and the importance of the midfield duo, it’s difficult to break into the side, which Travis will have hoped to achieve after signing from Blackburn Rovers, but even someone of his caliber hasn’t been able to do so.

Time will tell what the summer holds for him. Given his limited playing time, a permanent move to Portman Road is improbable, but back at his parent club, new manager John Eustace may see a role for the club captain.
