Ipswich Town made terrible mistakes four times during the transfer window

Over the years, Ipswich Town has seen some ups and downs during the transfer market.

The Tractor Boys are flying high towards the top of the Sky Bet Championship this season, so it appears that they have done a great job with their player recruitment.

They do have a lot of quality and ability right now, but the transfer market hasn’t always been kind to them.

Therefore, we are looking at four instances where Ipswich made mistakes in the market.

Ivar Ingimarsson

With his prime years behind him, the Icelandic defender joined Ipswich in the summer of 2011 on a free transfer from Reading. He over 300 appearances at Reading made him somewhat of a cult icon, but his stint with Ipswich was much shorter, and he only played eight times for the Tractor Boys before leaving.

In fact, after what was a very forgettable six months or so, he left the club in early 2012 to end his stay in Suffolk.

Nathan Ellington

Ellington, who joined Ipswich in 2011 just a few weeks before turning 30, was another player who was past his prime at the time.Up until that point in his career, he had excelled for teams like Bristol Rovers and Wigan Athletic, scoring goals and establishing himself as a fairly potent force up front.

He never found success at Ipswich, however, as he failed to score in 19 games before being released in 2013 and joining Crewe.

Tamas Priskin

Priskin was one of many high-profile acquisitions made by Roy Keane that ultimately fell short of their potential.

Priskin had previously performed admirably for Watford, but he was never able to replicate that level of play in Ipswich.

In his first season, he made just 17 league appearances, and in just over 50 games for the team, he managed just five goals before leaving.

He made history by scoring a goal against Arsenal, but in all honesty, that was only one high point in a sea of lows.

Finidi George

Expectations surrounding George were high due to his over 60 appearances for Nigeria in the 1990s, which included playing in World Cups and for teams like Ajax and Real Betis. But his performances revealed that he was nearing the end of his career.

His contract was terminated in 2003 after he played in just 35 league games and failed to save Ipswich from Premier League relegation.

It appeared on the surface to be a transfer that could truly pay off. bringing in a player with experience who had played at the highest level both internationally and in Europe, but whose legs were worn out and who could not make the kind of impact Ipswich would have hoped for when they paid a few million pounds to get him.
