Ipswich Town looking to sign a Premier League free agent

The Daily Mirror (via Football League World) reports that Ipswich Town are interested in signing West Ham defender Ben Johnson this summer.

Ipswich Town have been linked with a bid for the full-back ahead of the next transfer window.

Johnson, 24, has made 22 appearances across all competitions this season, 14 of which have been in the Premier League.

According to the Daily Mirror, the Tractor Boys want to lure him to Portman Road.

Ipswich Town are now focused on promotion from the Championship, competing with Leicester City, Leeds United, and Southampton at the top of the table.

They may consider Johnson as someone to enhance their defensive options next season if they are to cross the line and enter the top flight.

He can play on either flank of defense, making him a valuable addition to their team. The former England youth international has also played top-level football on a regular basis.

Johnson’s contract with West Ham expires in late June, and as he hasn’t signed a contract extension, he will currently be a free agent.

Before making his first team debut, the Londoner was a fixture for his current club’s young ranks after rising through the system.

To date, he has made 109 appearances for the Hammers and netted two goals.

Because of his ambiguous contract position, it is unclear if he will stay at the London Stadium after this term.

At this point, Johnson is probably considering his choices and determining what would be best for his career.

Ipswich Town is now concentrating on getting promoted, and they will be back in action this weekend when they travel to East Yorkshire to play Hull City. Seventh on the table are the Tigers.
