Ipswich Town are allegedly interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The 28-year-old moved from Leeds United to Manchester City during the summer transfer window in 2022 for a cost of £42.5 million.

After initially excelling at Manchester City, Phillips battled for first-team minutes, slipping behind players like as Rodri in the pecking order.

Following the 2022 World Cup, Pep Guardiola claimed that the former Leeds player was “overweight” and incapable of playing the role of a midfielder in his team.

Phillips has made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League champions during a difficult two-year stint, scoring once.

Man City’s Phillips wanted by Ipswich?

According to talkSPORT, another top-flight team is vying for the services of out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Phillips this summer.

According to the article, Ipswich have expressed interest in the midfielder, who has made 31 senior international appearances for England since his debut in 2020.

For the first time in two decades, the Tractor Boys are back in the Premier League and eager to add some top-tier talent to avoid relegation.

In addition to Kieran McKenna’s side, Aston Villa and Fulham are said to be interested in Phillips ahead of the August 31 deadline.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Sean Dyche’s Everton were leading Unai Emery’s Villans in the hunt to sign the former West Ham United loanee.

Portman Road could be a new home for Phillips

It never appeared plausible that Phillips would be an important part of Guardiola’s plans since he first entered the Manchester City locker room two years ago.

A temporary move to the London Stadium for the second half of the 2023-24 season was intended to rejuvenate the midfielder’s career, but a combination of bad performances and off-field events led to a terrible tenure at West Ham.

Phillips played a lot in pre-season for the Citizens, albeit out of position in defence, and Guardiola feels the 28-year-old can overcome his issue of playing in confined areas.

The former England international must feel trusted and at ease on the football pitch in order to succeed at Leeds, and Ipswich might provide that reassurance once more.
