Ipswich Town have reportedly reached an agreement to sign a former Liverpool player ahead of their Premier League start next weekend.
Ipswich Town’s summer business
The Tractor Boys managed to retain manager Kieran McKenna earlier this summer and have made a handful of new recruits throughout the transfer window. With only a few weeks left in the transfer window, the club has spent more than £60 million and signed several players from previous season.
McKenna is now preparing his team for the season’s first game at home against Liverpool, although work on new players is still underway behind the scenes.
Recently, the club has been connected with a deal for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp, but other promoted clubs Leicester City and Southampton have also expressed interest.
In other news, Ipswich have contacted Napoli about the possibility of signing midfielder Jean Cajuste, however it is unclear whether the approach was made with the player, the Serie A club, or both.
However, Ipswich appear to be making progress on another transaction with an international club, with a figure now agreed upon.
Ipswich Town agree fee to sign Ryan Kent
According to sources in Turkey, Ipswich have accepted a €3 million (£2.5 million) deal to sign Fenerbahce winger Ryan Kent. Jose Mourinho has approved Kent’s departure, and it is alleged that the club has given Kent permission to meet with Ipswich.
If personal terms are reached, the winger will go to England in the following days, with Ipswich set to beat Leeds United to a deal after the Whites were connected with their own move in recent weeks.
Kent, who previously played for Liverpool and Rangers, has been with Fenerbahce for just over a year, but he only made 19 appearances in his first season in Turkey, scoring once and assisting twice.
In 2022, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara expressed his desire to see Kent play in north London. “I don’t want to pull him away from Rangers, but I truly admire him as a player. I would want him at Spurs. He should be in the Premier League; he is an excellent player.”
Kent was also praised by former boss Steven Gerrard during their time in Glasgow, who said back in 2020: “He is so sharp and he has added a different dimension to his game. He is a pleasure to watch and coach and we just need to enjoy him. He has got the hunger and the desire and he is putting in the application to improve his numbers.”
Now, a return to England could be on the cards at Portman Road, making this one to watch.
