Ipswich Town are expected to lose £12,000 per week in “Diamond” in January

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has stated that the club is expected to lose offensive prodigy Dane Scarlett in January as Tottenham Hotspur aim to recall him from his loan term.

Scarlett joined Ipswich Town on a season-long loan at the start of the season, but has had little impact on the club’s performance so far, having played just 147 minutes in the Championship across 12 outings.

Furthermore, since joining the club in the summer, the Spurs academy product has yet to score a single goal in all competitions and has yet to start a single match under McKenna.

Now, at his pre-match press conference ahead of the team’s big game against Leicester City, the Northern Irish head coach has admitted that Spurs are trying to bring Scarlett back in January due to injury problems in the London club’s striking department [quotes via The Spurs Web]:

“There are conversations with Tottenham at the moment. I think it looks very likely that he’ll be recalled.

“Tottenham have injury issues at the moment and they have their main forward [Son Heung-min] going to the Asian Cup at the start of January as well.

“So there have been discussions over the last few days and there’s a fair chance that he’ll be recalled from the start of January.”

Scarlett came through Tottenham’s system a few years ago as a huge potential, with famous boss Jose Mourinho even calling the young attacker as a “diamond.”

Scarlett is presently earning £12k per week, according to Salary Sport, though it’s unclear how much of that is paid by Ipswich Town versus his parent club.

This is the best option for all parties. Scarlett is getting little to no playing time at Portman Road, which can only hurt his development in the long run because the teenager needs consistent minutes right now.

McKenna has stated that the Spurs’ decision to recall him is due to the Spurs’ injury problems. However, the club is likely to do so due to his lack of involvement with the Tractor Boys.
