Ipswich should pursue three centre-backs amid a possible link to Manchester United

Ipswich Town were among the clubs linked with Manchester United centre-back Will Fish at the end of last week.

Ipswich Town is one of the teams interested in Fish, according to HITC. Championship clubs Middlesbrough, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City, and Hull City are all interested in the centre-back, who has impressed on loan at Hibernian in Scotland.

Kieran McKenna may need to strengthen his centre-back position this summer, so with widespread interest in the Manchester United defender, it may be prudent to consider some other options as well.

Ipswich Town should keep an eye on these three center-backs.

Ronnie Edwards, Peterborough United

While Edwards is presently playing in League One, he is potential of moving up to the Championship with Ipswich Town. In fact, even if the club were to win promotion, the Peterborough United star could easily fit into a Premier League defense.

The England youth international is a star player for the Posh, and a promotion is almost certainly on the way. The only problem is that with his enormous potential, he may be beyond Town’s reach.

Di’Shon Bernard | Sheffield Wednesday

Di’Shon Bernard, who has established his talent in the Championship since joining Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer last summer, could be a more viable choice. He only signed a one-year contract upon arrival, so he could be available for a low cost.

Bernard is a young centre-back whose finest years are ahead of him. He’s also a former Manchester United youth player, so McKenna may be aware of his abilities.

Luke McNally – Burnley (on loan to Stoke City).

Last but not least, McNally hasn’t been able to replicate his performances at Coventry City with Stoke City. The latter are at the bottom of the Championship standings, and few players have stood out in a critically struggling team.

McNally has yet to make an impact at Burnley since signing from Oxford United, and with the Clarets on the verge of relegation, a sale may provide some revenue. If so, Ipswich Town should be among those interested.
