Ipswich name Kieran McKenna replacement if he departs

If Kieran McKenna joins Brighton, Ipswich Town may want to replace him with Rob Edwards, according to talkSPORT.

McKenna is already being considered to replace Roberto de Zerbi, who is set to depart Brighton at the end of the Premier League season, according to talkSPORT.

And Ipswich feel Luton Town manager Edwards may be the ideal choice to replace the former Manchester United coach if he decides to relocate to the south coast.

Last year, Edwards led the Hatters to promotion to the Premier League against the odds, and he also did an admirable job of keeping them there.

While Luton were eventually relegated, they ran Nottingham Forest close and were acclaimed for their style of play despite lacking the resources of top-flight clubs.

McKenna guided Ipswich to glory this year, guiding the club to back-to-back Premier League promotions from League One following an extraordinary managerial tenure.

There is every chance the Tractor Boys will lose their beloved manager, with Brighton eyeing him as a key option to replace De Zerbi, who shockingly decided to resign late on Saturday night.

Juventus, AC Milan, and Bayern Munich are among the clubs interested in the Italian, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United.

If McKenna does leave, Ipswich will be looking for a replacement as quickly as possible as they prepare for their first season back in the top division since 2002.

Edwards has won 25 of 75 games for Luton Town since taking over in November 2022, following a brief stint with rivals Watford.

He took over at Vicarage Road in late May, just as the Championship season was coming to an end, and he oversaw only 11 games, three of which were wins.

The 41-year-old, who has also managed England Under-16s and Forest Green Rovers, was fired as a result, moving to their local rivals and led them to promotion the same season.

The Hatters have been hit hard by injuries this season, with important players Elijah Adebayo, Jacob Brown, Marvelous Nakamba, Amari’i Bell, and Dan Potts all missing substantial amounts of time.

Captain Tom Lockyer also fainted on the field in December after having a heart arrest, ending his season and maybe his career.
