Ipswich express interest to sign dream £21m Hutchinson alternative
Ipswich Town could try to convince this unique gem to join the Portman Road ranks this summer.
Kieran McKenna’s future at Portman Road is no longer in doubt, as the Ipswich Town manager has signed a new contract.
That means the speculation mill will focus on incomings who could join Ipswich to help them during their first Premier League season, rather than prospective managerial replacements for the former Manchester United face.
Ipswich looking at “unique” Hutchinson alternative
The Tractor Boys are expected to press on and secure a permanent deal for their former sublime loanee Omari Hutchinson, who scored 11 goals in all competitions during Ipswich’s promotion heroics last season, but they may be tempted to sign this attacker instead if a move for the Chelsea youngster does not materialize.
TEAMTalk reported at the end of last month that Ipswich were contemplating a move for Newcastle United’s Miguel Almiron, with a sum of over £21 million required to complete this ambitious transaction.
How Almiron compares to Hutchinson
With Eddie Howe’s men looking to sell a number of players this off-season in order to clear out the more seasoned professionals in the squad, it’s no surprise to see Almiron’s name among those rumoured to be off, with the Paraguayan midfielder making an impressive 209 appearances for the Toon since joining with much fanfare in 2019.
The previous club record buy failed to light up the world for the Magpies this season, with his FBRef figures compared to Hutchinson underperforming in some areas over the last year, as well as the fact that the ex-Atalanta United striker managed only three Premier League goals overall.
Still, with his wealth of experience at a top-flight level no doubt coming in very handy for Ipswich, Almiron could prove to be a dream Hutchinson alternative.
Despite the fact that Hutchinson was a very productive loan for McKenna’s overachievers last season, the 20-year-old has only played in the Premier League once for Chelsea.
With the rest of the Ipswich ranks equally inexperienced with what it takes to cut your teeth making the step-up, having spent the majority of their careers in the EFL rather than playing in the bright lights of the Premier League, Almiron could be the experienced head they need to navigate the potentially turbulent waters smoothly.
Almiron has made 177 of his 209 Newcastle appearances, scoring 23 of his 30 goals in the league.
It’s not as if the winger’s abilities have diminished significantly on Tyneside, as he scored 11 Premier League goals in 2022/23.
That mirrored Hutchinson’s figures from the league below, but the tricky 5 foot 9 Toon attacker struggled this season, with only three strikes.

Regardless, Ipswich would welcome the South American this summer to offer more nous and experience, with Hutchinson also a potential arriving to really improve their squad ahead of their foray into the great unknown.
