Inter Milan’s’registered’ interest in the Leicester City player comes amid a contract dispute

According to rumours in Italy, Kelechi Iheanacho, the striker for Leicester City, might join Inter Milan next summer on a free transfer.

The Nigerian striker is one of the players whose contract with the team expires at the end of the current campaign, so should he decide against signing a new one, he will be free to join another team. That allegedly informed Inter of his availability.

The Italian team has “registered” their interest in the striker, according to FC Inter News, but they are still unsure whether they will actually make a move. Before making a final decision, the club is reportedly seeking to do “various assessments” of the player as they begin to make early plans for which free agents to sign in less than a year.

It’s not the first time Inter has been mentioned in connection with Iheanacho. Before the summer transfer window opened, the 27-year-old was reportedly touted as a potential possibility for the Serie A club, but no deal ever occurred.

Despite his contract issue, Iheanacho stayed at City past the summer. Iheanacho has scored four goals in the Championship this season while alternating the lone striker position with Jamie Vardy, with three of those goals coming in his previous three games.

The striker joined City in the summer of 2017 after leaving Manchester City. Last month, he talked openly about his summertime connections outside of City.

“These discussions are always challenging when you just have a year or two left with the football club. He said on BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling Podcast: “I know the rumors, the reports, or ‘you want to remain, you want to leave’, I know that.

“I personally adore Leicester City; it’s a great city and a great football team. I’ve been here for a while, and while it’s not ideal, we went down and are now fighting our way back up.

I’m focusing on my football with Leicester City while I’m here. I didn’t get to move, but I am now here playing for Leicester City, so let’s focus on that and hopefully we can come back up.
