Insider urges Lions to sign Chiefs CB amid trade request

Last offseason, the Detroit Lions made two major secondary acquisitions, but both failed to make an impact due to long-term injuries.

However, the Lions may try again this summer, with one insider proposing they make a move for Kansas City Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Snead. Mike Valenti, host of 97.1 The Ticket, feels the Lions have the cap flexibility and draft picks to acquire Snead, which he sees as a significant move for a Super Bowl contender.

Lions Should ‘Pick Up the Phone’

Valenti refuted the assumption that the Lions will have a quiet summer, stating that he feels they can add a guy like Snead while still having room to re-sign their indigenous players when the time comes.

“Don’t play this game with me, that we are somehow poor or if we paid L’Jarius Sneed we can not function or there wouldn’t be money for Aidan [Hutchinson], or what about Amon-Ra [St. Brown],” Valenti went on to say. “You’re in a wonderful cap situation. So please remind me again, and talk into my good ear. Tell me why I shouldn’t want the Lions to pick up the phone, offer pick 61, and five years at $95 million total for L’Jarius Sneed. Tell me why.

Last offseason, the Lions made some high-profile upgrades to their secondary, signing cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson. However, due to significant injuries, the pair only played four games in total.

Valenti went on to say that clubs in Detroit’s scenario, which fell just short of the Super Bowl after blowing a 17-point lead in the NFC Championship game, must make more aggressive attempts to advance.

“What the hell is this whole ‘wait and see’ thing? That’s not why we enjoy sports. You are aware that this show led the charge. “You win the division, you win the playoff game,” Valenti said. “I also warned you that you would probably not appreciate what came out of the speakers following the loss to San Francisco, which is as follows. We are in a Super Bowl window, therefore you have to do Super Bowl stuff.”

L’Jarius Snead Wants Out of Kansas City

Snead has been a key member of Kansas City’s defense, recording 303 total tackles and 10 interceptions in four seasons with the Chiefs. However, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Chiefs gave the cornerback clearance to seek a trade.

The Chiefs could use their franchise tag on Snead before the March 5 deadline and then pursue a trade, according to the NFL Network. According to the report, the Chiefs will have until mid-July to either sign an extension with Snead or move him if they tag him.

“Teams are sure to come calling, but they’ll have to compete with the K.C.’s negotiating power and the lure of sticking it out with the team that drafted him to make a run at a Super Bowl three-peat,” the report said.
