Injury Update:Wayne Rooney fires’sloppy’ star midfielder…
|Here’s how Birmingham City are set to line up in the Championship versus Plymouth Argyle, with a decision for Cody Drameh.
Birmingham City play Plymouth Argyle in the Sky Bet Championship for the final time before Christmas on Saturday afternoon.Wayne Rooney and his team will be eager to give the Bluenoses an early Christmas present in the form of a win and a move up the table.
Blues won their previous away game, a 3-2 loss to Championship leaders Leicester City on Monday night, and then impressed going forward. That was a tough result to accept because Birmingham gave it their all, but the Foxes were eventually too powerful on the transition.
Although no points were earned, lots of positives will have been drawn from that performance in preparation for the upcoming test. It’s a fantastic moment to play Plymouth because the club’s head coach of two years, Steven Schumacher, is leaving to take over at Stoke City.
Argyle are currently without a manager ahead of the weekend, with first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell ready to take over on the sidelines. Birmingham will be ready to capitalize on the situation, but it must remain respectful of Plymouth. With that in mind, here is the lineup we believe Rooney will select at Home Park Stadium.
1. John Ruddy, GK
Ruddy didn’t have his finest day as the Blues fell 3-2 to Leicester, but he was up against some of the best players in the league.
2. Emanuel Aiwu, RB
Aiwu has forced to come in at right-back and has looked a touch rash, but Drameh, who has been out with an ankle injury for the past several weeks, is unlikely to be risked.
3.Dion Sanderson, CB
The captain has been in excellent form in recent weeks and will be anxious to give Blues fans something to rejoice about before Christmas.
5. LB: Lee Buchanan
Touch wood, Buchanan appears to be developing into a trustworthy option at left-back. He’s provided Blues with much-needed consistency.
6. CM: Ivan Sunjic
The Croatian remains in the starting lineup after consecutive starts, but he will have a new midfield partner.
