Injury Update: Town key attacking duo sidelined for Plymouth Argyle trip

Ipswich Town will be missing crucial offensive duo Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead for Saturday’s Championship game against Plymouth Argyle.

Burns (calf) and Broadhead (thigh) both left last weekend’s 3-1 home win against Birmingham City, while Conor Chaplin was forced off due to a collision in the closing moments.

“Wes and Nathan are unavailable this weekend,” McKenna stated at today’s news briefing.

“These are modest muscular strains. It’s unlikely that they’ll be ready for Tuesday’s home game against Bristol City. We’ll have to wait and see what happens the following Saturday (in Cardiff).

“Conor suffered a gash below his knee after a tackle and required a few days off to protect it. We hope he will be able to workout with the group tomorrow and play some role on Saturday.

“Wes and Nathan are two vital players in terrific form, but that’s what our squad is about. There will be other players ready to join the club and make an impact.”

Midfielder Jack Taylor hasn’t featured for Town since the FA Cup defeat to Maidstone on January 27, having recently been sidelined with a quad injury.

“Jack’s back training, so that’s been a big positive this week,” revealed McKenna.

“He hasn’t done all of the sessions, but if he comes through tomorrow okay we’re hopeful he might be able to travel with us to Plymouth.”

Meanwhile, the Blues’ manager gave an update on long-term absentee Janoi Donacien.

“Janoi had (groin) surgery about three weeks ago and the recovery is going well,” said the Blues boss.

“He’s out on the grass running and will start doing ball work next week. Hopefully now, for the first time in a little while, the progression seems to be going in the right direction.

“He’s an important player for us. He’s one of the best, if not the best, defensive players in terms of one-v-one anticipation and aerially is good as well. If we can have him back fit and available for the last few league games that would certainly be a bonus.”
