Injury Update From Georgia Bulldogs Football Spring Game

Georgia football will be without numerous starters as the Bulldogs prepare for their annual G-Day spring football scrimmage on Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Georgia’s defense will be missing three expected starters, with one player at each level of defense.

Georgia’s offense is significantly healthier, but a few important players, including quarterback Ryan Puglisi, could miss games. Overall, Georgia has no new season-ending injuries heading into the spring game. Most players who are absent for G-Day are expected to return in time for fall camp. The only exception is Georgia tight end Pearce Spurlin, who was forced to resign due to a physical condition before spring practice began.

The weather in Athens, Georgia, is expected to be around 70 degrees and sunny for the contest. The spring game will be televised on SEC Network+ for those who are unable to attend in person. Let’s look at the injury list before Georgia’s spring game.

Offensive tackle Bo Hughley: Out

Bo Hughley had surgery on his left labrum and will miss spring practice. Hughley’s absence is not expected to last long, and he should return for fall camp. With Chad Lindberg’s transfer, Georgia will be short on offensive tackles this spring.

Defensive end Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins: Out

Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, a Georgia Bulldogs defensive end, overcame a foot injury during the 2023 season. He had foot surgery ahead of spring practice and is expected to return in the fall.

Quarterback Ryan Puglisi: Out

Ryan Puglisi, Georgia’s third-string quarterback, is out for G-Day. He brought crutches to the scrimmage. Puglisi has a minor knee ailment that has led him to miss some activity.

Ryan is battling with a minor knee issue. This is not a serious injury. He has had it before, dating back to high school. It’s been bothering him. He was able to throw. He hasn’t been able to get out and run,” stated Kirby Smart in his most recent update on Puglisi.”

Wide receiver Rara Thomas: Probable

Georgia wide receiver Rara Thomas was still recovering from a foot injury at the start of spring practice, but she is getting more reps and plans to play in the spring game.

Linebacker Smael Mondon: Out

Smael Mondon, Georgia’s projected starter at linebacker, has a stress fracture in his foot and will miss the spring. Mondon is anticipated to return in time for the fall camp.

Running back Bransn Robinson: Out

Kirby Smart reported earlier this spring that Branson Robinson is in month seven of his nine-month recuperation from a damaged patella tendon. Robinson should be in month eight and running. He should have fully healed from his injuries by fall camp.

Linebacker Kris Jones: Probable

Kris Jones, a freshman linebacker, has signed with Georgia as part of the class of 2024. The early enrollee previously had foot surgery and was limited to start this spring, but has seen more activity recently.

Defensive lineman Christen Miller: Probable

Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller is anticipated to play a significant role for the Bulldogs this fall. Miller has been limited this spring following meniscus surgery, but he has been suited up for recent practices and is expected to participate on G-Day.

Safety Malaki Starks: Out

Georgia Bulldogs star safety Malaki Starks had shoulder surgery this offseason and is slated to miss the team’s spring game. However, he has made significant progress in his recuperation.

“It’s tough; I haven’t been out for this long since I started playing football, so sitting out and not being able to do things is difficult.” “I only recently started doing independent work, so I’m able to get back into it a little bit,” Starks added.

Edge Damon Wilson: Probable

Georgia outside linebacker Damon Wilson, who now wears No. 10, is an important player for the Bulldogs after losing depth at the position through the transfer portal. Wilson underwent meniscus surgery and is now fully active after missing a portion of Georgia’s offseason.

Wide receiver Colbie Young: Active

Miami Transfer Colbie Young now wears Number 8. He participated in recent scrimmages, but was rehabilitating from an ankle ailment sustained earlier this spring.

Cornerback Chris Peal: Questionable

Chris Peal was seen practicing in a noncontact jersey in March. His injury is unknown, per Dawgs247.

Defensive back Demello Jones: Questionable

Demello Jones, a four-star defensive back signee, has been rehabilitating from a hamstring injury. Jones was restricted this spring.

Tight end Pearce Spurlin: Medically retired

Before spring practice began, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart announced that Pearce Spurlin, a sophomore tight end, is medically disqualified due to a congenital heart problem. Spurlin will stay on scholarship.
